FAQ:
Q: What is BETA?
A: After an initial round of in-house testing, software publishers often release new programs to be tested by the public. These pre-release versions are called beta software. In general, you should expect to run into bugs whenever using any piece of beta software. These bugs may range in severity, from minor features that don't work to problems that cause your computer to crash. Before choosing to use a piece of beta software, you should decide whether the benefit of new features in a beta program outweighs the risk of program instability.
Q: what's the difference from the Linux version vs Android version?
A: Long story short, Linux build is a BETA release from Pivos and has been developed longer than the Android APK. The build does not have Android as an underlying OS, so no Android APPs besides XBMC plugins.
Q: Is it more stable than the Android APK?
A: Yes our Linux build is the BETA release (compare to Android's ALPHA build), so it's far more usable in comparison.
Q: What if I want to go back to Android?
A: Simply download the original Android firmware and use FORCE FLASH method to flash it back. Both firmware are designed for the XIOS DS to give our customers a bit more flexibility.
Q: How come some of the features such as plugins don't work?
A: This builds merely concentrates on local and network playback, third party plugins may or may not work. Weather you are an user or developer, we welcome any contribution and feedback.
Installation Instructions:
Please use updates only meant for your specific XIOS DS hardware version.
Q: How to determine which XIOS DS hardware version you have (M1 or M3) ?
A: Check for the serial number
M1 --> S/N: 0002 G X XX XX XXXX
M3 --> S/N: 0002 G M3 X XX XX XXXX
M3v2 --> S/N: 0002 G M3 4 XX XX XXXX
1) Download the firmware file and extract it to UPDATE.IMG
2) Copy update.img file to mSD card or USB pen drive.
3) Connect the device to XIOS DS, then press and hold the reset button at the bottom of the unit, plug in the power adapter while holding the button down. Once you see the system update screen, release the button and box will reboot once update is finished.
