Please verify that this is the message you are seeing during the failed update before asking for the fix.
The fix deals with the following error and nothing else.

CODE: SELECT ALL
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "xiosm3" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "xiosm3"
E: Error in /tmp/sideload/package.img
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

Have this error as well, hoping to get it resolved :)

Please PM: box serial number on the box, proof of purchase (with date/place of purchase indicated).
Best of luck,

Even though the instructions clearly indicate to do this, I overlooked it. I had the unzipped file on another mSD (yeah, I put it on two different cards...troubleshooting is what I'll call it), but it was formatted to NTFS and, in the minor frustration, I had forgotten that Android recovery doesn't play well with NTFS.

Needless to say, once I had unpacked the .zip file and had a nice .img file on my FAT32 mSD my XIOS updated just fine. I had myself a bit of a facepalm moment and moved on.

I hope that my display of n00b might prove helpful to the next person, and maybe give our forum mod a little peace on the weekend.

Noob here too.

I tried this fix, and was hopeful when I saw the little bar across my screen indicating that things were finally updating... and then WHAM. The Dastardly Error message occurred.

Help?

I get:

assert failed: getprop ("ro.build.product") == "stvm3" || get prop ("ro.product.device") == "stvm3"
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted

What's interesting about it is that I tried the fix where I unzip the file, which seemed to work at first, but then I get an error that refers to a zip file? Sorry, confused.

I will PM you.

See thats not the error in the OP :) the error you quoted means you are trying to apply a DS-M1 firmware on a non DS-M1 hardware, if your hardware is DS-M3 then that would be the reason, you just need to correct update.img :)
