Write u-boot to blank NAND on Amlogic MX tv box.

Postby xhpohanka » August 28th, 2013, 5:17 am

Hi all,

I know that there are many experienced folks on this forum so hopefully someone can give me an advice. I'm playing with my DroidTV MX box and ended with cleared nand flash. It was not a mistake, I wanted to do that, but now I do not know how to continue. I have my own firmware including u-boot and kernel compiled and prepared and the device boots without a problem from SD card.

I expected that when I write u-boot at the begining of NAND flash it will boot from there but it seems that I'm not right. Can please someone give me a hint what is needed to write to NAND to allow booting? u-boot.bin, usb_spl.bin, or any other files?

with best regards
Jan

I will respond by myself, maybe it will be useful for someone...

Code: Select all
mmcinfo
fatload mmc 0 ${loadaddr} u-boot.bin

setenv bootstart 0
setenv bootsize 60000
nand rom_protect off
nand erase ${bootstart} ${bootsize}
nand rom_write ${loadaddr} ${bootstart} ${bootsize}
nand rom_protect on
saveenv

Can I ask ... and maybe I don't deserve the answer until I have read more, but what did you use to create a new firmware? I have tried a few tools to modify the boot screens of an already created firmware, but that does not seem to work.

How does one start with making a custom rom for an mx 2 box?
