Internet connectivity is required for R23.1 patch, but the patch deals with YT fix, so if your box doesn't access the internet then R23.1 is not needed.R23 is enough, and you don't need internet activity for that, just follow the panic recovery process as outlined in the first post with the R23 image.
Best of luck,

Thank you for your reply. So I presume that I can go directly from [Bootcode: usb3.0303.0018 Software version: 2.8.32]
to R23 (usb flash mode). And in a few days when I have internet-connect, I can use the wget-procedure to update from R23 to R23.1.
Correct me if that's not correct. Thank you again.

Yup that is correct, remember don't upgrade from the menus, instead do panic recovery as detailed in the OP.

Don't worry, if its messed up it wont install (thats what the verification process early on the firmware update does).

Hi everyone.
I successfully updated to R23. Setup Lan (auto) and time (I have internet now).
Then I did: http://192.168.1.25/cgi-bin/custom/wget ... local/etc/
and it says SUCCESS. Then I reboot.
The results are as follows:

Could anyone tell me please if it looks okay ? (It shows R23 even after the update to R23.1 ?)
As you see in the 2nd picture, YT (youtube) says: Cannot play this file. I tried other YT categories on the left and then I see it does updates update new Icons of new Video on the Right . But it always says the same Cannot play this file.

Yup thats correct (23.1 patch wont update the version number).

Yup thats a known issue with YT, the patch did indeed fix YT at the time but a Google API update broken it again, there is no current workaround.

Aasoror:

Has the potential of the aios been completely tapped at this point? I have enjoyed using it over the last few years, it's ability to play so many file formats is awesome, but I like the idea of using a media server like plex to handle my media. Mainly for the ability to scrape information.

Currently I have the aios set up with to be visible over my network and a plex server running on my laptop. I watch on my tvs via the plex app on Roku. I'd like to be able to eliminate the laptop from the equation, but I don't believe plex is possible on this hardware. Should I move on from the aios, or is there something beyond what I'm already doing that I could do instead to eliminate having a server running on my laptop 24/7?

Hi
Will there be any new fw updates to address handling newer video formats. I have an mkv format that does not play the video but the audio is ok

Cheers

Unfortunately there will be no new fw updates, its a 6 years old device and all decoding must be supported by hardware itself.
If you have a file in unsupported video container I suggest re-encoding it into something that would work on the AIOS.
Good luck.
