Thank you for the reply. I guess what I should have asked is which version to download/install? Without accessing an information screen (presumably requiring a remote) how do I know?

The version in the linked thread (AIOS-SO-FW- 3.0.1.7 R23).
Also the AIOS works fine with a USB keyboard, you will be able to navigate just like an IR remote.

I tried putting a different kind of AAA battery in the remote, one with a little different shape on the negative end. It works! So now I have a working remote and the newest firmware installed and it works great. Thanks for the help.
