What Replacement would you recomend?

Postby Diamond Dog » May 18th, 2016, 11:19 am

I love my AIOS, but it may need to be replaced.

I need:

Stunning picture quality up to 1080p
Ability to connect to a networked drive
Dolby TruHD and DTS HD
Anolog outputs as well as HDMI.

with that being said, what brand and model would you recommend?

Well you wont get non-pivos recommendations here due to the nature of the forum (being official and everything) ;) .
But let me point out this, as of right now there is no "Android" based solution (at least the popular AML chips we have put to the test) that is able to "properly" bitstream HD-audio (despite acquiring the proper licenses).
If you relax that requirement there is a multitude of options out there, else you are back to some intel/amd solution.

I really need the HD audio option.

Since Pivos doesn't make that, does that allow you to point me in the right direction?

As long as no specific product name is given then that is ok, as I said if HD audio passthrough is a requirement your best option is checking intel/amd based solution (cheap NUC or mid-level barebones for example).

Mmm... What's your definition of "properly"?
I know at least a couple of S905 android boxes doing HD audio passthrough...

That is good news then. Despite claiming otherwise at the time, the couple of S905 dev boards we tested few months back (running ref AML-Android-L) could only passthrough lossy DTS core extracted from DTSMA and transcode DD5.1 from TrueHD tracks, same goes for the S812 dev boards (running ref AML-Android-KK) we got before that.

Ah, indeed, it's quite recent. AML has developed patches for both S812 and S905 nowadays.
Even multi-channel PCM is now available.
